The primary developer of Uniswap, the leading decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, is set to launch a new blockchain as a layer-2 network on Ethereum, aiming to enhance transaction speed and reduce costs while improving liquidity. Unichain, the newly announced network, is scheduled to go live on a private test network.

The project is being technically developed by Uniswap Labs, utilizing technology from Optimism's OP Stack, which will make Unichain part of the Superchain - a federation of Optimism-affiliated networks. According to Hayden Adams, the inventor of Uniswap and CEO of Uniswap Labs, the motivation behind this initiative is to make transactions feel instant. This move aligns with the current trend in the Ethereum scaling world, where major crypto exchanges are launching their own layer-2 networks.

The introduction of Unichain is expected to address the growing need for faster and more affordable transactions, positioning Unichain as a potential DeFi hub for multiple chains within the Optimism's Superchain ecosystem. The Uniswap Labs team plans to integrate unique technological features into the chain, including a trusted execution environment for block building and a secure computing area, ensuring the integrity of transactions and code. These features are expected to bring transparency to transaction ordering and reduce the time for block building.

Furthermore, the community validation network, set to launch in 2025, will contribute to the decentralization of the network by enabling full nodes to participate in block verification through UNI staking.
