In a significant milestone for Ethereum layer-2 networks, Starknet, a zero-knowledge rollup, has announced that it has broken the record for transactions per second. According to the team, Starknet reached a maximum of 127.5 transactions per second over the past 24 hours, outpacing the previous record held by Coinbase's layer-2 network, Base. This achievement was made possible during a gaming stress test, which was designed to simulate mass use of the network via layer-2 solutions. The test, which was conducted in partnership with StarkWare, game development firm Cartridge, and the Starknet Foundation, saw over 11 million daily transactions recorded, with a peak of 857 transactions per second.
While Starknet's total value locked currently stands at $235.7 million, the network is seen as a top contender in the layer-2 space due to its advanced cryptography and technical attributes. The latest stress test demonstrates the network's capabilities in terms of speed and interoperability, and highlights the ongoing competition among layer-2 projects to achieve faster and more efficient on-chain transactions.
