In a groundbreaking move, Optimism's Superchain ecosystem has welcomed its first Bitcoin-native project, as reported exclusively by CoinDesk. BOB, a layer-2 project designed to expand development on the Bitcoin blockchain, has successfully integrated with the Superchain ecosystem, which is built on Optimism's OP Stack framework.

As part of this collaboration, BOB is set to receive a grant from the Optimism Foundation, currently valued at approximately $870,000, although the exact amount has not been finalized. The OP Stack is a comprehensive toolkit that enables developers to create custom blockchains on top of Optimism's layer-2 network. BOB describes itself as a 'hybrid layer-2' network, combining the strengths of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Its primary objective is to establish bridges between its network and prominent layer-1 blockchains, such as Ethereum, with the ultimate goal of positioning Bitcoin as a central hub for decentralized finance (DeFi).

According to Alexei Zamyatin, co-founder of BOB, 'Joining the Superchain reinforces our commitment to a hybrid vision, ensuring that Bitcoin developers on BOB have access to the latest technologies to integrate into their BTC products.' Optimism has also attracted notable players in the crypto space, including Coinbase, which utilizes OP Stack for its Base blockchain, and Kraken, which recently announced its own network, Ink. As reported by CoinDesk, Kraken received a grant of 25 million OP tokens, worth approximately $42.5 million, as part of its partnership with Optimism.

BOB's grant, on the other hand, is valued at $870,000, based on the current price of OP tokens. However, this amount is subject to change, as it has not been finalized.

Despite trailing behind rival Arbitrum in terms of total value locked (TVL), Optimism boasts a wider ecosystem of projects utilizing its technology, with over 40 rollups and a combined TVL of more than $18 billion.
