Citrea, a pioneering Bitcoin project, has successfully raised $14 million in Series A funding to further its mission of expanding BTC's capabilities through zero-knowledge technology. The investment round was led by Founders Fund, accompanied by notable angel investors Erik Voorhees and Balaji Srinivasan.

Citrea's innovative approach involves leveraging the BitVM computing paradigm to enable Ethereum-style smart contracts on the Bitcoin network. By integrating zero-knowledge proofs, Citrea aims to transform Bitcoin into a versatile platform for smart contracts, thereby enhancing its utility and relevance in the decentralized finance ecosystem.

The project's CEO emphasized that Citrea is designed to be EVM-compatible, allowing seamless deployment of Ethereum applications without modification. If unsuccessful, Bitcoin risks becoming outdated due to its limited scalability and reliance on intermediaries, underscoring the importance of Citrea's mission to unlock BTC's full potential.
