Following a four-month debate, Kemi Badenoch has been elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party. Her appointment comes after former leader Rishi Sunak stepped down, a decision that was made in the aftermath of the Labour party's significant victory in the recent general election.

Badenoch secured the leadership role by defeating Robert Jenrick. In the past, the Conservative Party has shown support for the crypto industry, proposing regulatory measures and expressing a desire for the country to become a hub for cryptocurrency. However, during the leadership contest, the topic of digital assets was not discussed. According to Su Carpenter, executive director of Crypto UK, neither Badenoch nor Jenrick has publicly expressed strong views on crypto, tech, finance, or payments innovation.

Badenoch's stance on crypto remains unclear, as she has not made any public statements on the matter. Prior to her election, Badenoch advocated for a new strategy for integrating individuals entering the UK.

As a member of parliament for North West Essex, she previously held the role of shadow secretary of state for housing, communities, and local government, where she was responsible for challenging the Labour government. During the Conservatives' time in government, Badenoch held various ministerial positions, including secretary of state for business and trade.

She has emphasized the importance of financial services to the economy and cautioned against over-regulation.
