Chainlink, a leading blockchain company, Swift, a global financial messaging platform, and UBS Asset Management have announced the successful completion of a pilot project that enables the settlement and redemption of fiat cash from tokenized funds. The project, which was conducted under the auspices of the Monetary Authority of Singapore's Project Guardian, demonstrated the feasibility of using Swift's infrastructure to facilitate off-chain cash settlements for tokenized funds, highlighting the potential for tokenization and blockchain to enhance, rather than replace, Swift's services, which connect over 11,500 financial institutions across more than 200 countries. As the demand for tokenized funds grows in Singapore and other jurisdictions, the ability to access cash quickly and efficiently is becoming increasingly important, particularly in the traditional finance industry.

According to Sergey Nazarov, co-founder of Chainlink, this pilot project showcases the potential of the company's work with Swift and its applications in various sectors of the financial services industry. Nazarov emphasized that the pilot enables traditional finance investors to subscribe to tokenized funds using a familiar Swift transfer method, without the need for stablecoins, central bank digital currencies, or other digital assets. 'We have long advocated for the need to facilitate the flow of institutional investments into the blockchain industry, and we are now making this a reality in a reliable, technical, and secure manner,' Nazarov stated.

The pilot project also leveraged Swift's system in combination with Chainlink's platform to facilitate the automatic minting and burning of UBS tokenized fund tokens.
