The Gemini cryptocurrency exchange has expanded its services to France, just weeks before the European Union's Markets in Crypto Assets regulations come into effect. This move marks the beginning of Gemini's expansion into the 27-nation EU trading bloc.
Institutions and users in France, the EU's second-largest economy, can now create a Gemini account to deposit, trade, and store digital assets. They can fund their accounts using debit cards and bank transfers. With MiCA set to take full effect by the end of the year, Gemini is poised for growth in other EU countries. Companies that obtain MiCA approval in one country will be allowed to operate across the EU next year.
While awaiting approval, companies registered in an EU member country can operate in their country of registration for a limited time, with France-registered firms having an 18-month window. According to Gemini's research, the French market is showing increased interest in digital assets, and the country's robust regulatory framework presents an opportunity for Gemini to introduce its platform and expand its presence in the European market. Gemini's affiliate, Gemini Intergalactic Europe, secured registration as a digital asset service provider in France in December and is also registered with the Central Bank of Ireland.
