According to a report by The New York Times, Gary Wang, the former Chief Technology Officer of FTX and a close associate of Sam Bankman-Fried, will not face imprisonment for his role in the cryptocurrency exchange's fraudulent activities. Wang had pleaded guilty to four counts of criminal charges in December 2022, including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit securities and commodities fraud. His decision to cooperate extensively with US prosecutors in the case against Bankman-Fried led Judge Lewis A. Kaplan to rule in his favor.

Wang had promptly collaborated with prosecutors following FTX's collapse, making him a crucial witness in Bankman-Fried's trial, alongside Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research. For his cooperation, Judge Kaplan expressed that Wang deserved a great deal of credit. Prior to his sentencing, Wang expressed remorse for his involvement in FTX's fraudulent schemes, stating that he was deeply sorry and acknowledged that there were many alternative actions he could have taken.
