A report by Fox Business suggests that two prominent figures with crypto-friendly backgrounds, Perianne Boring and Caroline Pham, are being considered by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). This move could potentially position the CFTC as a key regulator for digital assets under the Trump administration. Boring, known for her advocacy against what she terms "regulatory overreach" in the bitcoin mining sector, has recently criticized the Department of Energy's data collection methods and accused the Securities and Exchange Commission of attempting to classify numerous cryptocurrencies as securities through "backdoor rulemaking". Meanwhile, Pham, already a CFTC commissioner and leader of the Global Markets Advisory Committee, has proposed a time-limited pilot program aimed at establishing a principles-based regulatory framework for digital asset markets and tokenization, emphasizing the need for international cooperation and regulatory clarity.
