Botanix Labs, the force behind the Spiderchain Bitcoin layer-2 network, is driving the evolution of decentralized finance on the original blockchain by entering its final testnet phase ahead of a planned mainnet launch in 2025. The Aragog testnet brings forth a range of tools, including Palladium, a bitcoin-backed stablecoin, Bitzy, a decentralized exchange, and Spindle, a lending and borrowing marketplace. These tools are foundational to the mainnet's DeFi capabilities. By aiming to launch the mainnet in the first quarter and ensuring Spiderchain's compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), Botanix Labs seeks to bridge the gap between Bitcoin and Ethereum, enabling the deployment of Ethereum-based applications and smart contracts on the Bitcoin network.
The ultimate goal, as stated by Botanix, is to 'bring Bitcoin back online and on-chain,' thereby unlocking its full potential as a global currency. This move is part of a broader effort by several Bitcoin layer 2 projects to leverage Bitcoin's security and decentralization while tapping into the vast capital reserves held in BTC.
By doing so, these projects aim to transition Bitcoin from being viewed as 'digital gold' to a fully functional global currency, capable of supporting a wide range of financial applications and use cases.
