As the co-founder of Babylon, a leading staking protocol for Bitcoin, David Tse has been instrumental in introducing a new era of utility to the world's first blockchain. Although the Bitcoin network itself relies on proof-of-work, Babylon's innovative protocol enables users to stake their BTC, effectively lending the security of the original cryptocurrency to other blockchain networks. The year 2024 was particularly notable for Babylon, with a substantial $70 million funding round in May and a highly successful mainnet launch in August, which saw the protocol reach its 1,000 BTC cap in just over an hour. A second round in October drew an impressive 24,000 BTC in under two hours.

According to Tse, who also teaches engineering at Stanford University, the response from stakers far exceeded expectations. With the consistent growth of BTC's dominance in the crypto market over the last 18 months, the sector is poised for further expansion in 2025 and beyond, making David Tse and the Babylon team ones to watch as interest in Bitcoin staking continues to grow.
