The Ethereum development team has announced a timeline for the highly anticipated Pectra upgrade, promising a slew of enhancements aimed at boosting the blockchain's speed and efficiency. During a virtual meeting on Thursday, the core team revealed that Pectra is slated for release in March 2025. This upgrade combines eight key Ethereum improvement proposals into a single package, with notable upgrades including EIP-7702, which enhances wallet user experience by enabling programmable smart contracts, and EIP-7251, which increases the maximum staking amount for validators from 32 to 2,048 ETH. Initially intended as Ethereum's most extensive hard fork to date, Pectra has undergone revisions, with developers opting to split the original package into two parts in September.
Testing is set to take place on the Sepolia and Holesky test networks throughout February, with a mainnet launch planned for early to mid-March if all goes smoothly.
