Bitpanda, a leading crypto exchange, has announced that it has secured a prestigious Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from Germany's Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). Similarly, OKX and Crypto.com have received accreditation from Malta, as the European Union's licensing regime opens doors to the 30 nations comprising the European Economic Area (EEA). The MiCA regulations, which came into effect late last year, enable license holders to operate across the EEA without requiring approval from each individual country. This area encompasses the 27 EU nations, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
With 6 million users as of December, Austria-based Bitpanda plans to utilize the license to drive growth. According to Eric Demuth, CEO and co-founder of Bitpanda, 'This milestone allows us to provide easy and secure investing opportunities to over 450 million people, unlocking unprecedented growth potential in a market we are poised to fully capture.' The companies are joined by Boerse Stuttgart Digital, which was the first to receive a license from the German regulator.
Other notable recipients of MiCA licenses include MoonPay, BitStaete, ZBD, and prime brokerage and clearing company Hidden Road. The approval is expected to 'streamline operations, ensuring both compliance and seamless cross-border activity,' as stated by Crypto.com COO Eric Anziani in an emailed statement.
