As the head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, appointed by President Donald Trump, Elon Musk has proposed the integration of blockchain technology into the department's operations, as reported by Bloomberg. Musk has suggested that leveraging a digital ledger system could provide a cost-effective means of tracking federal expenditures, securing data, processing payments, and managing properties, as indicated by individuals familiar with the matter. Representatives from various public blockchain networks have reportedly met with affiliates of the DOGE department. The creation of this department was a response to the federal government's $6.7 trillion spending in fiscal 2024, which Musk had previously described as 'wasted' funds.

He vowed that the department, whose acronym pays homage to his preferred cryptocurrency, DOGE, would reduce this figure to a maximum of $2 trillion. Given the department's name and Trump's commitment to fostering a crypto-friendly environment in the US, Musk's plan to incorporate blockchain technology is not unexpected.

Furthermore, in addition to establishing the DOGE department on January 20, Trump signed an executive order to create a digital assets working group, led by venture capitalist David Sacks, tasked with identifying all regulations affecting crypto within a 30-day timeframe, among other objectives.
