The Cardano blockchain, founded by Ethereum co-founder Charles Hoskinson in 2017, has successfully implemented its highly anticipated Plomin upgrade. This significant milestone marks a major shift towards a decentralized governance model, enabling ADA token holders to participate in shaping the future of the ecosystem.
With the Plomin upgrade now in effect, users can vote on key decisions, including treasury measures and hard forks. Building on the foundations established by the Chang hard fork four months ago, Plomin introduces Delegate Representatives, who will act as voting representatives for ADA token holders. Previously, governance decisions were overseen by the Cardano Foundation, Input Output Global, and Emurgo.
The transition of responsibilities to new governance groups is now complete. Prior to the upgrade, Stake Pool Operators were required to update their nodes and approve the changes with a majority vote. With approximately 85% of nodes now running the new version, the network has successfully transitioned to the updated system.
Looking ahead, the Cardano community is focused on addressing a range of new challenges and implementing further enhancements. According to Giorgio Zinetti, CTO of the Cardano Foundation, the development priorities will be driven by community needs, with a focus on improving speed, introducing privacy features, and expanding utility for developers.
