In a recent court filing, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Binance, and its former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) have jointly requested a 60-day stay in their ongoing case, aiming to facilitate an early resolution and conserve resources. The lawsuit, initiated in 2023, alleges that Binance and its affiliated entities, including BAM Management, breached securities laws.
The introduction of a Crypto Task Force, established by SEC Acting Chairman Mark T. Uyeda on January 21, may potentially expedite the resolution of this case by assisting the SEC in developing a comprehensive regulatory framework for the crypto sector.
A Binance spokesperson expressed gratitude towards Chairman Uyeda for his considerate approach, stating that the SEC's allegations have always lacked merit and that they are eager to move forward, focusing on maintaining Binance's position as a secure, licensed, and trusted exchange globally. This development comes as major crypto companies advocate for a shift from regulation by enforcement to a more nuanced approach, with significant changes in the regulatory landscape, including the departure of former SEC Chair Gary Gensler and an executive order by President Donald Trump promoting crypto-friendly policies.
