American Crypto Market Update: BTC and Altcoin Decline Serves as Warning for Equities

By James Van Straten (All times ET unless otherwise specified) The CME bitcoin futures chart is under scrutiny as a 12% decline in bitcoin has filled the latest gap on the CME chart, resulting from the exchange's weekend closure and the cryptocurrency's surge to $95,000. RiggsBTC highlights a notable statistic on X: since the launch of bitcoin futures in December 2017, there have been 80 CME gaps, with only one remaining unfilled at $21,000. On a broader economic scale, the US is expected to experience slower growth due to fiscal cuts, trade uncertainties, and a weakening housing market. Inflation is anticipated to decrease, with the Federal Reserve prioritizing employment over price control, according to Professor Satoshi, an analyst at Greeks Live Options Trader, in an exclusive statement to CoinDesk. Professor Satoshi believes equities are overvalued and predicts a potential drop in the S&P 500 to 5700-5500. The crypto market is undergoing de-risking, often a precursor to downturns in equities. "De-risking is evident in altcoins, which typically precedes de-risking in major currencies. Historically, the crypto market declines before equities follow suit," Professor Satoshi explains. Professor Satoshi also expects the Fed to likely skip a rate cut in March and potentially implement a larger 50 bps cut in May. Additionally, he anticipates a potential return of quantitative easing in 2025, a prediction he has been making since last year's growth scare. "The Federal Reserve often reacts late due to their data-driven approach. My prediction for 2025 includes the return of quantitative easing, which few consider possible but has been a concern of mine since the growth scare last year. We have been delaying the inevitable until now." However, the strengthening Japanese Yen, currently at its strongest level this year against the US dollar at 148, could be an early warning sign.
