Hacker Returns $5 Million in Stolen ZKSync Tokens Following Bounty Agreement
Following a recent security breach involving the theft of $5 million worth of tokens from an admin wallet, ZKSync has announced that the stolen funds have been recovered, bringing the incident to a close. The layer-2 blockchain platform was compromised when its admin wallet was hacked, resulting in the theft of unclaimed tokens from a recent airdrop. In a statement, the project revealed that the hacker had cooperated fully with the team, returning the stolen tokens within the designated 'safe harbor' period. As a result, the hacker was eligible for a 10% bounty. The recovered tokens are currently under the custody of the ZKSync Security Council, and a governance process will be initiated to determine their future use. A comprehensive investigation report is being prepared and will be made public upon completion.
