Ethereum Co-Founder Anthony Di Iorio Views Blockchain as Complementary to Bitcoin, Not a Direct Competitor
During his appearance at Consensus 2025, Ethereum co-founder Anthony Di Iorio expressed his belief that the Ethereum blockchain was designed to serve as an alternative, rather than a direct rival, to Bitcoin. Di Iorio shared his insights on the early days of Ethereum, recalling the sense of momentum that was building around the project. As one of the eight co-founders of Ethereum, Di Iorio initially became involved in the cryptocurrency space through his advocacy for Bitcoin, organizing meetups in Toronto as early as 2012, where he met Vitalik Buterin, the creator of the Ethereum whitepaper. Although Di Iorio remains a strong supporter of Bitcoin, he suggests that Ethereum has the potential to surpass it in terms of market capitalization due to its diverse range of use cases and the value it enables. Following his departure from the Ethereum Foundation, Di Iorio went on to establish Decentral in 2014, the company behind the Jaxx Liberty crypto wallet, and more recently launched Andiami in 2022, a project aimed at addressing centralization issues within decentralized networks by combining hardware, tokenomics, and game theory.
