At the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, Square, a company founded by Jack Dorsey, has advanced its bitcoin payment capabilities. For a three-day period, attendees are participating in a trial program that enables them to use bitcoin for purchases by scanning a barcode. The payments are processed nearly instantly through the Lightning Network, with Square handling the real-time exchange rate calculations and sending confirmation notifications, as stated in a press release. The company intends to expand this feature to a larger audience later in the year and make it available to all customers by 2026, pending regulatory approval.

Miles Suter, the Bitcoin Product Lead at Block, Square's parent company, expressed the company's vision, saying, 'Our goal is to create a monetary system that is open, decentralized, equitable, fast, and affordable for everyone, which is exactly what we aim to offer to Square sellers.'
