Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has been granted a European Union Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license by Luxembourg, as announced in a recent statement. This development enables the exchange, ranked fifth globally in terms of volume according to CoinGecko, to extend its services across the 30 nations comprising the European Economic Area. Bybit, the second-largest exchange, secured its MiCA license from Austria in May, while OKX and Crypto.com obtained theirs from Malta.
The EU MiCA license provides access to all EU member states, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Despite this, countries within the bloc continue to compete for the attention of major crypto companies. Coinbase expressed its delight at establishing its European crypto hub in Luxembourg, citing the country's significant role in Europe's financial ecosystem and its adoption of four blockchain-related policies. This move underscores Luxembourg's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for cryptocurrency operations.
