Kraken, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has successfully obtained a license to operate under the European Union's Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation in Ireland. This development enables Kraken to extend its crypto services to 30 countries within the European Economic Area (EEA), facilitating rapid business expansion across the region. According to the exchange, this milestone was announced on Wednesday. Kraken's co-CEO, Arun Sethi, stated, "The acquisition of this license strengthens our position, allowing us to broaden our product offerings, increase our client base, and provide secure, accessible, and fully regulated crypto services to a larger audience across the EU." Obtaining a MiCA license serves as a testament to an exchange's adherence to EU-wide standards regarding consumer protection, transparency, and oversight.
Kraken joins its peers, including Coinbase, which received approval in Luxembourg, and Bybit, which was licensed in Austria in May. This license is expected to enhance Kraken's presence in the European market, solidifying its position as the sixth-largest crypto exchange globally by trade volume.
