RISC Zero's Boundless, a decentralized marketplace for zero-knowledge compute, has introduced its incentivized testnet, dubbed Mainnet Beta, on Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network, Base. This testnet allows developers to build and test applications in a simulated live environment. Notably, Boundless has garnered early support from prominent industry players, including the Ethereum Foundation, Wormhole, and EigenLayer.

The decentralized marketplace connects those requiring zero-knowledge proofs with a network of independent 'ZK provers or miners' who generate and verify these proofs, enabling anyone with suitable hardware to contribute computing power and receive rewards. Zero-knowledge technology facilitates the verification of transactions without disclosing sensitive information, making it a crucial component of next-generation blockchain projects focused on privacy and scalability. The network operates on a Proof of Verifiable Work consensus mechanism, where miners are rewarded for successfully verifying proofs within a ZK Virtual Machine, ensuring efficiency, fairness, and security.

Participants in the incentivized testnet can earn early allocations of the network's forthcoming token, $ZKC, through an airdrop event scheduled for later this year, with rewards based on the volume, speed, and complexity of generated proofs. The mainnet is planned for the third quarter of 2025, with the token launch coinciding with this event.

According to Shiv Shankar, CEO of Boundless, the network enhances blockchain scalability by facilitating secure, cross-chain computing without redundant tasks, thereby boosting efficiency, strengthening security, and allowing developers and miners to participate across different ecosystems.
