As announced on Wednesday, the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX is set to commence its next round of creditor repayments on September 30. This move follows the company's initial repayment phase, which began earlier this year and has so far resulted in the disbursement of approximately $6.2 billion, subsequent to the approval of its repayment plan by the US bankruptcy court. Under the leadership of its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, FTX was once a dominant player within the digital asset ecosystem. However, the company's fortunes took a drastic turn in 2022, when a CoinDesk exposé led to the collapse of Bankman-Fried's business empire.

In 2023, Bankman-Fried was found guilty on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy, for which he received a 25-year prison sentence in connection with an $11 billion fraud scheme. Nevertheless, there is a possibility that his sentence could be reduced by up to 4 years, contingent upon his demonstration of good conduct. According to recent developments, FTX has obtained court approval to decrease its disputed claim reserve from $6.5 billion to $4.3 billion.

The distribution of funds to creditors will be facilitated through the platforms BitGo, Kraken, and Payoneer.
