Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network, Base, has surpassed Solana in daily token creation, driven largely by the rising on-chain social network Zora, where posts become financial assets. This shift follows Coinbase's rebranding of the Base App as a gateway for on-chain social finance. The app now integrates social feeds with token minting, enabling users to create tokens directly from their posts, resulting in a significant jump in the ZORA token. Since the relaunch, Zora has seen all-time highs, with over 1.6 million creator coins minted, nearly 3 million unique traders, and over $470 million in total volume.
The creator coin model allows for simplified token creation, with each coin having a fixed supply and directly linking engagement to earnings. While critics argue that the model may prioritize short-term speculation, the momentum of content token creation and new users in Zora remains strong, positioning the 'creator economy' for retail-driven activity.
