Coinbase has launched a new tool within its Coinbase Developer Platform, allowing developers to seamlessly integrate self-custodial wallets into their applications. The Embedded Wallets software development kit (SDK) offers a range of built-in features, including cryptocurrency onramps, token swaps, and an annual return of 4.1% on USDC balances, effectively eliminating the trade-off between user experience and custody risk. Unlike traditional wallet integrations that require browser extensions or seed phrases, the CDP Embedded Wallets enable users to onboard via email, SMS, or OAuth, as stated in a press release. This allows users to start transacting immediately, while developers maintain full control over the front-end experience without having to manage custody or complex compliance requirements.

According to Coinbase, the SDK is designed to be the 'everything wallet' for Web3 developers, providing a seamless user experience backed by enterprise-grade infrastructure. It operates on the same systems that power the Coinbase DEX, offering secure key management, recovery services, and future support for smart contract accounts.

With a wide range of use cases, including decentralized finance, gaming, fintech, and creator platforms, the Embedded Wallets SDK reflects the growing need for crypto to become more accessible. As stated by the company, 'Users don’t want to think about wallets, they just want great apps.'
