Aster Surpasses HyperLiquid with 8-Fold Increase in Trading Volume: Crypto Daybook Americas
By James Van Straten (all times ET unless otherwise stated) Monday's trading performance in the crypto and related equities market could be an indication of a positive trend for the industry in October and the fourth quarter, despite still lagging behind US equities and metals. The price of Bitcoin (BTC) jumped 5% from Friday's fear-driven session to a more neutral position at $114,000 on Monday, demonstrating the rapid shift in sentiment as measured by the Crypto Fear and Greed Index. However, the largest cryptocurrency later surrendered some of these gains and was trading around $112,800. It may need to wait for gold to relinquish some attention before making its next move upwards. This might be a challenge, as gold continues to outperform with nearly 50% year-to-date returns, reaching another record high above $3,870 earlier today. Meanwhile, the dollar index (DXY) has fallen below 98, which is positive for risk assets, but is struggling to gain momentum. An imminent US government shutdown poses a threat to policy decisions surrounding crypto more than any other area. Equities related to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing continue to gain strength. Robinhood (HOOD), the trading platform recently added to the S&P 500, saw its share price jump 12% on Monday as the quarter comes to a close. September has been a relatively subdued month for cryptocurrencies, with the CoinDesk 20 Index showing little change, up only 0.54% over the period. Ether (ETH) has lagged behind and is on track to lose more than 5% for the month, while Bitcoin is currently up 4.5%. October, also known as 'Uptober' due to its historic effect on BTC, is just around the corner. Remain alert for potential market movements.
