US Voters Prioritize Other Issues Over Cryptocurrency Ahead of Elections, Survey Reveals
As the US midterm election approaches, a survey of 1,000 registered voters has found that cryptocurrency ranks low on their list of priorities. Only 1% of respondents considered crypto their top concern, despite a wider recognition of its importance as a political issue. The survey, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies on behalf of CoinDesk, revealed a split in opinions between Republican and Democrat respondents, with 41% identifying with each party. The credibility interval of the survey was plus or minus 3.53%. Although cryptocurrency is not a direct issue on the ballot, the industry has a significant stake in the election outcome, particularly with regards to the market structure bill and potential tax reform legislation. The crypto industry has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to support friendly candidates, following its status as the largest donor industry in the 2024 election. The survey also found that the cost of living, jobs, and the economy were the most pressing issues for voters, with crypto ranking at the bottom of the list, particularly among Republican-leaning voters. Artificial intelligence was the only issue that ranked lower, with 2% of respondents considering it their top priority. The survey also examined views on crypto, with 27% of participants having invested, traded, or used a cryptocurrency, and 27% considering it a possibility in the future. Furthermore, 47% of respondents believed Republicans were more supportive of cryptocurrencies, while 27% trusted Democrats more on the issue. Approximately 40% of respondents stated they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who shared their views on crypto. Notably, 3% of respondents considered crypto the 'single most' important issue, and 22% viewed it as an important issue, indicating a higher awareness of digital assets compared to previous years.
