Bitcoin Hovers Near $80,000 as Stocks and ETF Inflows Indicate Potential Breakout
The price of Bitcoin has retreated to $79,000 after briefly surpassing $80,000 during Asian trading hours. At the time of writing, the cryptocurrency's market value had increased by 0.4% over the past 24 hours. The CoinDesk 20 Index also rose by 0.4%, alongside a nearly 1% increase in Ether and marginal gains in XRP and Solana. According to Marex analysts, the current price level is more significant than the market narrative. They noted that a clean break above $80,000 could turn the trade into a momentum-driven move with room for further extension, while a rejection could lead to profit-taking and a return to the mid-$70,000 range. The probability of a clean break above $80,000 remains high due to the risk-on sentiment in global markets and strong market flows. Marex analysts stated that the driver behind the current trend is straightforward, with equities performing well due to AI and megacap earnings, and crypto riding the risk-on impulse. Strong ETF inflows, which totaled over $600 million on Friday, also support the breakout attempt. The 11 U.S.-listed spot exchange-traded funds have seen institutional demand totaling $3.29 billion over the past two months, according to SoSoValue. However, analysts caution that the risk-on rally could face headwinds if tensions between the U.S. and Iran escalate, and that persistent security risks in decentralized finance threaten widespread adoption. For now, the setup remains straightforward, with equities performing well, ETF inflows rising, and Bitcoin riding both trends. A decisive break above the $80,619 resistance level could strengthen the case for a broader uptrend, potentially opening doors to $85,000.
