World Liberty Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Tron Founder Justin Sun
A cryptocurrency firm linked to the Trump family, World Liberty Financial, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Justin Sun, the creator of Tron, in a state court in Florida. The lawsuit asserts that Sun exhibited 'gross misconduct' regarding his acquisition of WLFI tokens. This move follows Sun's own lawsuit against World Liberty in a federal court in California, where he claimed the company had unfairly restricted his ability to transfer his WLFI tokens. World Liberty's lawsuit claims that entities associated with Sun engaged in straw purchases to buy WLFI tokens on behalf of other investors and possibly participated in short-selling the token. The company froze Sun's tokens to 'protect itself and the broader community,' stating that his tweets about the frozen tokens contained false or defamatory information. World Liberty alleges that Sun hired influencers and used bots to spread false information, resulting in lost business opportunities for the company. Significant portions of the lawsuit have been redacted, including details about Sun's token purchases and alleged misconduct. The alleged misconduct includes a large-scale, intentional short-selling campaign aimed at suppressing the price of $WLFI during its public launch, which is linked to the transfer of $300 million to Binance from Sun-affiliated wallets. According to the lawsuit, upon discovering these violations, World Liberty exercised its contractual rights to freeze Sun's tokens to prevent further harm. The suit emphasizes that Sun was aware of the agreements' terms and the company's ability to restrict token transferability, rendering his defamatory statements false. The lawsuit seeks damages, expenses, and the retraction of Sun's statements.
