Bitcoin, with a current value of $79,000 after briefly surpassing $80,000 during Asian trading hours, has shown a 0.4% increase over the past 24 hours. The CoinDesk 20 Index has also seen a 0.4% rise, accompanied by a nearly 1% increase in ether and minor gains in XRP and solana. According to Marex analysts, the current level is more significant than the narrative. They stated, 'The psychological barrier is $80,000.
A clean break and hold above this level could turn this into a momentum trade with potential for further extension. However, a rejection could lead to a fade, keeping us within the same range logic and inviting profit-taking towards the mid-$70s.' The probability of a clean break above $80,000 remains high due to the risk-on sentiment in global markets and strong market flows.
Marex analysts noted, 'The driver stack is straightforward, with equities performing well due to AI and megacap earnings, and crypto riding this risk-on impulse. At the same time, institutional demand is clearly back in the mix.' Strong ETF inflows at the end of last week, with over $600 million invested in 11 U.S.-listed spot exchange-traded funds, indicate that real money is buying the breakout attempt rather than fading it. This extends a two-month run of institutional demand totaling $3.29 billion, according to SoSoValue.
QCP Capital's market insights team noted that spot ETF flows remain supportive, with roughly $163 million in net inflows last week. Despite the supportive backdrop, analysts warn of potential headwinds, including renewed pressure on the risk-on rally if U.S.-Iran tensions escalate and persistent security risks in decentralized finance threatening widespread adoption.
For now, the setup is straightforward: equities are strong, ETF inflows are rising, and bitcoin is riding both trends. The current chart shows bitcoin's weekly price swings, with a decisive break above $80,619 potentially strengthening the case for a broader uptrend and opening doors to $85,000.
