Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Stocks
In a bid to bridge the gap between tokenized and traditional equities, Ondo Finance has launched a proxy voting feature for its tokenized securities. This move enables holders of over 250 tokenized assets on the platform to exercise their voting rights through Broadridge Financial Solutions' ProxyVote system. By integrating this feature, investors can access company documents and governance tools, typically available only through brokerage accounts, using their crypto wallets. This advancement is particularly significant given the rapid growth of tokenized equities in the crypto space, with the sector now boasting over $1.1 billion in value, having tripled in size over the past year. As the largest issuer in this sector, with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its Global Markets platform, Ondo's introduction of proxy voting addresses a critical gap in governance rights for these assets. Although the tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system allows investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. "The benefits of being on-chain, such as free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, are now complemented by the governance aspect of the underlying assets," he noted. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to blockchain systems through this partnership. The goal is to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows, thereby enhancing auditability, transparency, and compliance. Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, emphasized that this integration will significantly contribute to making the tokenized world more scalable and trustworthy for end investors.
