Innovative Wallet Offers Solution to Mitigate Bitcoin's Quantum Vulnerability Without Requiring a Network Fork
The developers of a newly introduced wallet claim to have devised a method to counter the risks associated with quantum computing, utilizing a smart contract layer that operates in tandem with the Bitcoin network without necessitating any alterations to the network itself. Postquant Labs unveiled its post-quantum bitcoin wallet, Quip Network, which operates on the Arch Network, a system enabling developers to create smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. This approach allows for the addition of a post-quantum signature scheme, known as WOTS+, to augment Bitcoin's existing security measures. By employing a 'Layer 2' network, built on top of Bitcoin, developers can introduce new features without modifying the base layer of the network. The launch of Quip's wallet occurs amidst an ongoing debate within the Bitcoin community regarding the most effective approach to addressing quantum risk, with some proposals advocating for a soft fork or a hard fork, while Quip's method requires neither, instead offering immediate protection.
