Major Players in the Crypto Industry Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Hack
The world of decentralized finance has often been marked by division, but in the face of crisis, it is revealing a surprising degree of unity. Following a significant hack that affected Aave, one of the largest lending protocols in DeFi, a diverse group of industry players has joined forces to support affected users and restore market stability. This collective effort, known as 'DeFi United,' has secured commitments of approximately $303 million as of Monday, according to its website, although much of this capital is still awaiting governance approval. The hack, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and posed a risk to lending positions on Aave, has prompted an unprecedented display of cooperation across the industry. Aave itself is at the forefront of this effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH towards recovery. Aave's founder, Stani Kulechov, has also pledged to donate 5,000 ETH personally, while other contributors associated with Aave are making significant contributions. The response, however, extends far beyond Aave. Following the April 18 bridge hack that impacted rsETH, Kulechov reached out to Consensys and other key ecosystem participants to coordinate a response. Consensys, alongside its founder Joseph Lubin, has committed up to 30,000 ETH in financial support to advance the recovery and protect users. The effort has also drawn in smaller but significant contributions from across the DeFi community, including proposals from Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle, as well as deposits into Aave from entities like Babylon Foundation and Renzo. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities such as Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance also contributing. This broad-based response underscores the shared priority among industry leaders to support users and restore normal market conditions, reflecting a recognition of the interconnectedness of the DeFi ecosystem and the need for collective action in times of crisis.
