Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for Tokenized Equities Valued at $700 Million

In a bid to align tokenized equities with their traditional counterparts, Ondo Finance has introduced a feature that enables investors to participate in corporate decision-making. This is made possible through a partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allowing holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company documents and cast their votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can access these features using their crypto wallets, typically a privilege reserved for those with brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is significant, as tokenized equities have been expanding rapidly in the crypto sector, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, more than tripling in size over the past year. As the largest issuer in this sector, with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its Global Markets platform for non-US investors, Ondo is pioneering a new standard. The addition of proxy voting addresses a critical gap in governance rights for these tokens, which, although separate from the underlying shares, now allow investors to express their preferences. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, "This development aligns with Ondo's mission to make traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of blockchain technology with the governance of traditional assets." Broadridge, a leader in processing proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. As noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, providing investors with the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance will significantly enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized ecosystem.
