Mythos Forces Crypto Industry to Rethink Security Measures

The crypto industry is being driven to reassess its security practices due to the emergence of Mythos, a new AI model from Anthropic. This model is designed to identify and exploit weaknesses across systems, pushing the focus beyond smart contracts to the underlying infrastructure. According to Paul Vijender, head of security at Gauntlet, the bigger risks lie in the infrastructure, including key management systems and cryptographic layers. A recent security breach at web infrastructure provider Vercel, which may have exposed customer API keys, highlights the importance of reviewing and securing these components. Meanwhile, Aave, a leading lending protocol in decentralized finance, is at the center of a broad recovery effort following losses tied to the Kelp DAO exploit. The effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has raised around $301 million in commitments, with participants from across the industry contributing to restore normal market conditions. In another development, the CEO of crypto firm Alchemy, Nikil Viswanathan, argues that crypto was built for AI agents, not humans, as it offers a global, always-on financial layer where value can move seamlessly across borders. Lastly, a proposed Bitcoin fork, eCash, has sparked controversy over its plan to allocate Satoshi Nakamoto's copied coins, with some viewing it as a property-rights issue.
