New Proposal Offers Satoshi a Way to Prove Control Over Bitcoin Without Transferring Funds
The concerns surrounding Bitcoin and quantum computing have long been intertwined with the issue of Satoshi Nakamoto's holdings. With millions of bitcoin, including those attributed to Satoshi, at risk of being stolen by powerful quantum computers, a solution is imperative. One proposed solution is a soft fork that would eventually stop allowing transactions from legacy address types, forcing holders to move their assets to quantum-safe formats. However, this proposal has raised concerns for long-dormant holders like Satoshi, who would have to publicly reveal their assets or risk losing access. To address this issue, Dan Robinson from Paradigm has proposed a concept called Provable Address-Control Timestamps, or PACTs, which allows holders to generate a proof of ownership and timestamp it without revealing any information publicly. This proof can be used to rescue frozen coins if Bitcoin were to activate a soft fork that includes a rescue path. The PACTs proposal offers a potential solution for holders like Satoshi, but its implementation would require significant infrastructure changes and community consensus.
