DeFi Leaders Unite to Support Aave Users with Massive Rescue Plan Following Crypto Hack
The decentralized finance world is witnessing an unprecedented level of cooperation in response to a recent crisis. A massive hack has led to substantial losses for Aave, a leading lending protocol, prompting a broad-based recovery effort. Dubbed 'DeFi United,' this initiative has garnered around $303 million in commitments as of Monday, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The hack, which affected rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has sparked one of the most coordinated responses to a DeFi incident. Aave Labs, the company behind the protocol, is at the forefront of the effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH for recovery. Founder Stani Kulechov has also pledged to donate 5,000 ETH personally. Other key contributors include Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, among others. The response has extended beyond Aave, with major players such as Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Smaller contributions have also been made by various members of the community, including Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle. The effort has drawn praise from industry leaders, with Lubin stating that 'the Ethereum ecosystem has always been at its best when it moves together.' The list of participants continues to grow, with entities such as Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance also contributing to the cause. While not all contributions are structured in the same way, the breadth of participation underscores the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi. As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the DeFi community is coming together to support its users and restore normal market conditions.
