Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities
Ondo Finance has taken a significant step towards aligning its tokenized equities with their traditional counterparts, enabling investors to engage in corporate governance. By partnering with Broadridge Financial Solutions, the platform now allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company documents and cast their votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can access these features using their crypto wallets, typically a privilege reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is crucial as it addresses a long-standing issue in tokenized equities - the lack of basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, this new system empowers investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this move is a key part of the company's vision to increase accessibility to traditional financial assets. By combining the benefits of on-chain transactions with the governance of underlying assets, Ondo is poised to revolutionize the tokenized equities space. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is expanding its infrastructure to support blockchain systems. The goal is to create a seamless experience for both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, providing investors with the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance will be instrumental in making the tokenized world more scalable and trustworthy.
