KuCoin EU Strengthens Anti-Money Laundering Capabilities to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In an effort to address regulatory concerns and resume operations in the European Union, KuCoin EU, the European subsidiary of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has bolstered its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This move comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority instructed the company to halt its EU business activities due to a shortage of staff in these critical areas. To rectify the situation, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer and expanded its AML function. Additionally, the company has hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to Sabina Liu, Managing Director of KuCoin EU, the company has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized that the exchange has been working diligently to enhance its compliance team, making several key appointments to ensure a robust and compliant operation. Despite these efforts, the timeline for resuming EU operations remains uncertain, pending further discussions with the FMA.
