DeFi Leaders Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Crypto Hack

The world of decentralized finance has often been marked by fragmentation, but in the face of crisis, an unusual level of coordination is emerging. Following the significant losses tied to the Kelp DAO exploit, Aave, one of DeFi's largest lending protocols, is at the forefront of a broad recovery effort. This endeavor, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has garnered approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a coordinated industry response. Aave Labs has outlined a plan for the DAO to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery, with founder Stani Kulechov donating 5,000 ETH personally. Other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, BGD Labs, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, are also providing support. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support, alongside other ecosystem participants such as Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle. Smaller contributions have also been made, with entities like Babylon Foundation, Renzo, Circle Ventures, Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun providing deposits or purchasing AAVE tokens. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, Ink Foundation, and Tyro also involved. Aave Labs has emphasized the long-standing relationships across the ecosystem, with many teams in close contact throughout the process. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi, with the Ethereum ecosystem coming together to support users and restore normal market conditions.
