KuCoin EU Enhances AML Capabilities to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In a move to address regulatory concerns, KuCoin EU, the European division of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has appointed experienced anti-money laundering and compliance professionals. This development comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority instructed the exchange to halt its European operations due to a shortage of AML and compliance staff. To rectify this, KuCoin EU has hired Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer, while also expanding its AML function. Additionally, the exchange has brought on board seasoned Austrian compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized the exchange's commitment to transparency and its efforts to strengthen its compliance team through multiple appointments. However, the timeline for resuming European operations remains uncertain, pending discussions with the FMA.
