US Voters Lack Confidence in Trump Administration's Ability to Oversee Crypto Sector
A significant majority of US voters, 62%, express distrust in the Trump administration's ability to oversee the crypto industry, according to a survey conducted by CoinDesk. Despite President Trump's promise to establish the US as the 'crypto capital of the world', his administration's efforts to pave the way for friendly crypto regulation have not alleviated concerns. The poll reveals that 73% of the public opposes senior government officials having personal business dealings in the industry, with 59% of Republican voters also disapproving of such ties. The survey, which was split evenly between Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris supporters, suggests a shift in sentiment among some of Trump's voters since 2024. The White House has not responded to requests for comment, but a spokesman for World Liberty, a company with ties to the Trump family, stated that the president is committed to ensuring the development and growth of the crypto industry in the US. The survey also delved into perceptions of crypto, revealing that most voters retain a distrust or uncertainty about cryptocurrencies and their place in the economy and politics. The crypto industry's relationship with the president has been delicate, with the industry rejoicing at his regulatory appointments but having to navigate his personal business involvement in the sector. The current effort to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which aims to formalize US regulation of the industry, has been hindered by Trump's crypto ties, with Democrats requesting a ban on personal crypto ties for senior officials. The bill's fate remains uncertain, with bipartisan talks ongoing and the need for Democratic support to secure Senate approval.
