Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities
In a move to bridge the gap between traditional and tokenized equities, Ondo Finance has introduced proxy voting, enabling holders of its tokenized securities to engage in corporate governance. This feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows investors to review company filings and cast their votes through the ProxyVote system, thereby bringing tokenized equities closer to their traditional counterparts. With over 250 tokenized securities available on the platform, investors can now log in using their crypto wallets to access documents and governance tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The integration of proxy voting is significant, as it addresses a long-standing limitation of tokenized equities, which have often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain separate from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, offering the benefits of being on-chain, such as free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, while also providing governance rights. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support blockchain systems, aiming to provide a unified workflow for both digital and conventional assets. As noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, this move will enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized world by providing the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance as traditional assets.
