Innovative Wallet Offers Solution to Mitigate Bitcoin's Quantum Vulnerability Without Forking

The developers of a new wallet claim to have devised a method to counter the risks associated with quantum computing by utilizing a smart contract layer that operates in tandem with Bitcoin, eliminating the need for any modifications to the network itself. Postquant Labs introduced the Quip Network's post-quantum bitcoin wallet, which functions on the Arch Network, allowing developers to build smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. This approach enables the addition of a post-quantum signature scheme called WOTS+ on top of Bitcoin's existing security, providing an alternative to the elliptic curve math that quantum computers could potentially compromise. By employing a 'Layer 2' network, developers can introduce new features without altering Bitcoin's base layer. The launch of this wallet comes amid an ongoing debate within the Bitcoin community regarding the best approach to address quantum risk, with some proposals suggesting a soft fork or hard fork, while others argue that a Layer 2 solution like Quip's is sufficient.
