Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance has taken a significant step towards aligning its tokenized equities with traditional assets by introducing a proxy voting feature. This development enables investors to engage in corporate governance, a critical aspect of traditional investing. The new feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities on Ondo's platform to review company filings and cast their votes through Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can access these documents and governance tools using their crypto wallets, mirroring the experience of traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is particularly significant for tokenized equities, which have been growing rapidly but often lack basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this move is central to Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of traditional assets. Broadridge, a major processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance will significantly enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized world.
