Bitcoin Faces Resistance at $80,000, Analysts Predict Temporary Setback

Bitcoin, currently trading at $79,707.35, is struggling to break through the $80,000 barrier due to concentrated sell orders. Despite this, analysts believe the pullback is temporary and part of a broader uptrend that started in late March. The leading cryptocurrency briefly surpassed $79,000 during Asian trading hours before falling back to trade below $78,000. Over the past 24 hours, bitcoin has declined by approximately 0.4%, with ether, XRP, and Solana's SOL also experiencing losses. Broader market benchmarks, including the CoinDesk Memecoin Index and Smart Contract Platform Select Capped Index, have fallen over 1% each. According to Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at FxPro, the $80,000 level is acting as a near-term ceiling due to the buildup of sell orders. On-chain and ETF data support the view that the pullback is temporary, with crypto exchange Binance recording a net inflow of roughly $3.4 billion in stablecoins this month. Institutional demand remains strong, with U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs pulling in $2.44 billion in investor money this month. However, security risks in decentralized finance (DeFi) continue to weigh on sentiment, with DeFi protocols losing an estimated $623 million to hacks in April alone. In traditional markets, WTI crude oil prices remain above $90 per barrel, threatening to destabilize the global economy with high inflation.
