Bitcoin Faces Resistance at $80,000, Analyst Predicts Temporary Setback
Bitcoin, currently trading at $78,904.49, is experiencing a familiar struggle near the $80,000 mark, hindered by sellers despite fresh stablecoin inflows, increasing ETF demand, and a risk-positive equity market, which may delay but not prevent a breakout. The cryptocurrency briefly surpassed $79,000 during Asian trading hours before retreating below $78,000, resulting in a 0.4% loss over the past 24 hours. Ether has declined 0.6%, XRP is down 0.8%, and Solana's SOL has dropped over 1%, with broader market indexes also under pressure. According to FxPro's chief market analyst, Alex Kuptsikevich, the $80,000 level is acting as a short-term barrier due to concentrated sell orders. Kuptsikevich believes the pullback is temporary and aligns with the broader uptrend that began in late March. On-chain and ETF data support this view, with Binance recording a net stablecoin inflow of roughly $3.4 billion this month and U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs attracting $2.44 billion in investor funds. However, security risks in DeFi continue to impact sentiment, with recent exploits resulting in significant losses. In traditional markets, crude oil prices remain high, posing a threat to the global economy. The persistent structural risk in DeFi underscores the need for enhanced security measures, particularly in protecting private keys, which have been the most significant vulnerability, accounting for 40% of total losses in crypto hacks.
