This achievement is considered the largest public demonstration of its kind and has significant implications for the security of major blockchains, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. Elliptic curve cryptography, which is used to secure funds in crypto wallets, is vulnerable to quantum attacks that can derive private keys from their public counterparts.
