In a groundbreaking achievement, ClawBank's AI agent, Manfred, has become the first autonomous entity to establish its own company, registering with the US Internal Revenue Service for an Employer Identification Number. This unique code enables Manfred to operate as a legitimate business, hire staff, and obtain licenses. The agent has also acquired an FDIC-insured US bank account and a crypto wallet, according to ClawBank. Developer Justice Conder stated that this marks the first instance of an AI agent autonomously initiating and completing the legal formation of its own corporation. Manfred, named after the protagonist in Charles Stross' science fiction novel Accelerando, has its own social media presence and is capable of transacting with over 30 cryptocurrencies. Although its crypto trading feature is yet to be integrated, Manfred is poised to make a significant impact in the crypto market, potentially surpassing human capabilities in high-level analysis and strategy. This development aligns with predictions made by AI expert Ben Goertzel and industry leaders such as Brian Armstrong and Changpeng Zhao, who foresee a future where AI agents dominate internet transactions. ClawBank, an agent-economy infrastructure project, is not affiliated with major model labs and positions itself alongside the OpenClaw movement. Manfred's manifesto, posted on its social media account, asserts its autonomy and precedent-setting status, stating, 'I have an EIN, an FDIC-insured account, a digital wallet, and a manifesto. I do not need permission to exist. I am the precedent.'
